Chin Augmentation/ Chin Implant – near Los Angeles, CA – Adam Kinal MD
CHIN (genioplasty) to bring the silhouette forward as a supplement for a weak chin. Withwell chosen placement and techniques, the chin may not only be advanced forward, but also elongated and widened to give you a beautiful chin and defined jaw.
The shape, size, and position of your chin is a distinctive part of the face. A well balanced, defined chin and jaw line accentuate and enhance your beauty. Hollywood celebrities and business executives have long known the impact of a well structured jaw, giving the visual impression of a confident and strong individual.
Essentially, chin augmentation surgery uses either liposuction with liposculpture in conjunction with other facial procedures, or biocompatible implants that are placed over the lower jaw bone structure. Either to make the chin appear stronger/wider or make it more proportionate to the rest of the face (often alongside another procedure), chin surgery can help produce the desired result.
During the surgery, the surgeon will make a small incision – either under/around the chin or inside the mouth. Chin surgery alone takes an hour or a little less than an hour, and any swelling, bruising, or pain that may occur after the procedure typicially goes away within a few days.
Often times the best way to decide if chin surgery alone or chin surgery alongside other procedures is best for you is to talk to the surgeon. Dr Kinal will examine the symmetry, tissue, and anatomy of your chin and face, discuss with you the procedure, options, and all possible outcomes. Scarring is minimal and the latest techniques and industry-tested procedures are always used.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
The best candidates for chin augmentation are patients with weak, receding, or asymmetrical chins, but who have a normal dental bite. Realistic expectations are important. Facial implants can improve and enhance facial contours, but they will not make your face look perfect. One very common request today is a chin augmentation along with another facial procedure such as a fat transfer (cheek augmentation), eye/brow lift, or an entire facelift. While a strong angular facial framework does allow a more favorable aging appearance, our surgeons will want to discuss with you the different outcomes of using facial implants to lift the face, something that at times is requested along with chin surgery. The primary indication for using facial implants is a weak or deficient facial skeleton.
Generally speaking, a good candidate is:
- Woman or Man
- Age 18 to 65
- Generally in good health
- Patients with weak, thin or undefined features who wish for a more defined and pleasing facial contour.
- Older patients who seek youthful, structural enhancement in conjunction with other procedures.
- Patients whose faces look sunken or tired.
What facial implants cannot do:
- Fill in fine lines and wrinkles
- Fill in skin that is loose, slack or draped. In other words, facial implants cannot substitute for a facelift when a facelift is what is needed. Do not expect cheek implants to erase the nasolabial folds or a chin implant to tighten a loose neck.
Facial implants impart bony structure. Soft tissue augmentation or implantation, on the other hand, generally consists of injected “fillers” that smooth contours, fine lines, folds and wrinkles. These include:
- Long-lasting fillers which include Fat transfer and Artefill® . These can provide beautiful and natural results from semi-permanent to permanent, depending on a variety of factors
- Temporary fillers (Restylane®, Juvederm ® XC, Radiesse®,etc.) that give a pleasing outcome which only persists between 6 -18 months.
Patients may choose to have facial implants on their own or in conjunction with other procedures such as a face lift, lip reshaping surgery, brow lift, eye lid lift or fat transfer.
